“Things turn out best for the people who make the best out of the way things turn out.” – Art Linkletter
There’s much wisdom in the old saying, “Where there’s a will there’s a way.” Thinking positively or thinking like a winner is not looking at life through rose-tinted glasses or ignoring the advice of informed others, it’s having the will and the self-motivation to learn, to do what it takes, and to find another way when things don’t go to plan.
What you focus on, you give energy to. Winners in life don’t waste energy focusing on what hasn’t happened, they focus on what’s yet to happen; the positive things that could still happen if they continue to take positive action today, tomorrow, and the next day…
“Passion is energy. Feel the power that comes from focusing on what excites you.” – Oprah Winfrey
The journey to achieving your dream is not guaranteed to be a straight or smooth one. Thinking like a winner means keeping your eye on your goal and finding a way to get around, over, or through obstacles that fall across your path along the way. Winners in life do what they love and love what they do; winners put their heart into what they do, and when your heart is in achieving a dream, you not only take action to achieve it, you keep taking action to achieve it – you’re committed.
“It’s not who you are that holds you back, it’s who you think you’re not.” – Hanoch McCarty
You see, positive thinking is powerful, but thoughts alone can’t get you to where you want to go if you don’t act on those thoughts. Everyone’s vision of success is individual to them, but if you want to become that success, you need to think of yourself as that success and utilise the power of those positive thoughts to drive the positive actions that will keep you moving forwards towards achieving it.
Thinking positively doesn’t guarantee that things will always go your way, but think of it this way…
…You can’t pass a driving test on positive thoughts alone if you haven’t put in the physical practice. But, no matter how many hours of driving practice you put in, you won’t pass your test until you think you can.
…You can’t get your dream job if you haven’t gained the necessary qualifications. But, no matter how many qualifications you’ve gained, you won’t get the job you want until you believe you can get it.
Where there’s a will there’s a way, and that will comes from believing in yourself and your ability to achieve whatever you put your mind to.
As Thomas Jefferson once said, “Nothing can stop the man with the right mental attitude from achieving his goal; nothing on earth can help the man with the wrong mental attitude.”
